School Calendar &
Community Rhythms

The SOL school calendar is thoughtfully designed to balance academic continuity, community well-being, and time for reflection and renewal. Our schedule honors the needs of children, families, and educators while reflecting the values that guide life at SOL.

Professional Development Days

To support ongoing growth and excellence in teaching, SOL schedules one Professional Development Day approximately every three months. These days take place during the school week and provide educators with dedicated time for reflection, collaboration, training, and alignment with Montessori best practices and SOL’s mission.

Families are notified well in advance of all Professional Development Days, and dates are clearly indicated on the annual school calendar.

Reflection Gatherings

Reflection is an essential part of learning and growth at SOL: for children, educators, and families alike. Several times throughout the year, the school sets aside time for reflection gatherings, creating intentional pauses to consider shared experiences, reconnect with guiding values, and align our efforts moving forward.

These gatherings are inspired by the understanding that meaningful growth unfolds through cycles of learning, action, and reflection. They provide space to consider questions such as: What are we noticing about children’s growth and needs? How is our environment supporting learning, well-being, and belonging? How can we continue to strengthen our practices in alignment with SOL’s values?

SOL hosts staff reflection gatherings to support collaboration, renewal, and professional growth among educators, as well as community reflection gatherings open to the wider school community. These moments are not instructional or religious in nature; rather, they focus on universal themes such as gratitude, unity, service, and shared responsibility.

By creating regular opportunities for reflection, SOL nurtures a culture of mindfulness, consultation, and continual learning, helping ensure that our actions remain aligned with our mission and that our community continues to grow with intention and care.

Scheduled School Closures

On certain Bahá’í holy days, the school will be closed. This reflects the values of the school’s founders and does not require or expect religious observance from students or families. The academic calendar has been adjusted so no instructional days are lost.

For the 2027–2028 school year, SOL will be closed on the following weekdays:

November 11
April 21
May 1
May 4

These dates may vary slightly from year to year based on the Bahá’í calendar and will be confirmed in advance.

SOL warmly welcomes families of all backgrounds and beliefs. These calendar closures are shared transparently so families can plan accordingly and reflect our broader commitment to clarity, respect, and integrity within the school community.

A detailed annual calendar, including start and end dates, holidays, professional development days, and community events, is provided to families prior to the start of each school year and updated as needed.
